Racing is back! And so are Massive PRs – Knighton Lions Spring 2021 Racing Highlights
LIVE RACING HIGHLIGHTS (April 10 – May 2)
Racing – our favorite activity has returned.
We feel hope that the worst of Covid is behind us and we can safely return to a full schedule competition.
The past two weeks were incredible for the Knighton Lions. A dozen Lions have competed in live races all over the United States – both on the streets and trails.
I’m so excited to see the racing, PRs, and team camaraderie continue! Let’s go team!
John C – Took nearly 30 MINUTES off his marathon personal best in the Lincoln Nebraska Marathon. Incredible 3:34 finish on a hot day!
Erica K – Also known as Mrs. Knighton Runs has been trying to break 1:35 in the Half for years, and finally did it! 4 minute PR and a 1:34 finish in the Providence Half!
Kelly D – Very Strong 5K at the Providence 5K. She put it all on the line. No PR today, but it is coming soon! Her training has been excellent and this was a rust-buster, first race back since pre-covid 2020!
John G – 1:27 finish at the Providence Half. A two-minute PR and a lot more coming soon from him. Keep an eye on this guy.
Kyle K – ran an incredible 1:21 Half Marathon at the Sioux Falls Skedaddle, besting his previous PR from 6 years ago by several minutes! In his own words, his training is “the best it’s ever been!”
Mike P – Took 65 seconds off his 5K Personal Best in the Providence 5K! 19:25 finish (4th in age group!)
Lella B – ran a strong and steady 10K at the Pomham Rocks 10K in Rhode Island, giving her essential experience racing once again in person and setting her up with confidence for the Newport Half Marathon in one month.
Heather K – ran the Glass City Marathon, and while unfortunately, she had to pull out of the race in the final mile, she proved to herself and the world that she can run a 3:35 marathon! She ran through 25 miles on pace for a TWENTY-TWO minute Marathon Personal Record!!!!!??!!!!!??!!! WHAT?
Kelly P – completed the 100K Zion Trail Ultra in Zion National Park! Her first ever ultra-marathon.
Lisa C – ran the Omahalf in Omaha, Nebraska as a tune-up race. She gave an even effort on a windy day, giving her confidence for her upcoming goal, the Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon.
And I, Coach Chris, won my first ever road race at the Pomham Rocks Lighthouse 10K in Rhode Island! This was also my first race in Rhode Island since we moved here – read the full race report here. While this race went slightly slower than my personal best, I got good experience racing for position against the other leaders and ran a smart race to start conservatively and finish strong, holding back some energy in case I needed to kick away from 2nd place. This was a big confidence boost for me one month out from Newport Marathon!
